The story of C.L. is one of a fighter who refuses to accept defeat even in the face of Alzheimer’s disease. As a former European wrestling champion, he was accustomed to tackling challenges, but being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s presented him with the toughest fight of his life.
The first signs
A few years ago, the once very strong and agile C.L. noticed that he increasingly found it difficult to remember words and to follow conversations. What began as an insignificant irregularity developed gradually into a serious problem. His memories faded; he increasingly felt depressed and anxious, and was ultimately diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease.
A glimmer of hope
In 2021, when the disease continued to progress, C.L. happened upon Transcranial Pulse Stimulation (TPS). »Feeling both curious and hopeful, I made an appointment with one of the doctors offering this therapy,« recalls C.L.
The therapy and its effect
One week before the therapy started, C.L.’s condition was recorded: cognitive limitations, depressive symptoms, nightmares and anxiety dominated his everyday life. Yet even after the first session, he sensed an improvement. »I felt it was easier to find the word I wanted and I experienced a sense of freedom and clarity.« The positive trend continued: after the third session, he was able to hold a telephone conversation almost fluently, while the test results showed a marked improvement in his cognitive abilities. C.L. felt so comfortable with the team at the clinic in Kempen that he regularly takes the long journey from Berlin in order to continue the therapy with refresher treatments.
A new everyday
After completing the treatment, C.L. reported how the TPS treatment had altered his life.
»Thanks to my improved ability to find words, it’s possible for me to hold conversations properly again. I forget fewer things when I go shopping. This makes my everyday life much easier. Watching television is also a pleasure again, because it’s easier for me to understand the content of the programmes.«
And although he has not yet decided whether he wishes to return to the ring, one thing is certain: C.L. has won back some quality of life, and therefore a part of himself, thanks to TPS therapy.
